memory-game-woodland
Memory Game

The Woodland Memory Game is a matching game built around 40 acorn-shaped cards, forming 20 pairs of hand-illustrated woodland animals and plants such as owl, squirrel, hedgehog, and fox. It is recommended for children ages 3 and up, and the round of play can be adjusted by removing or adding pairs to make the challenge easier or harder as a child's memory and matching skills develop.

Each card is made from sturdy FSC-certified paperboard and printed with soy-based inks. The acorn shape and illustrated characters are designed to be easy for little hands to hold and flip, and to spark conversation between players during the game.

To start, cards are laid face down in rows, and players take turns flipping two cards at a time to find matching pairs; the player with the most pairs at the end wins. For an easier introduction, cards can be shown face-up first so a child can match by image and color before moving to face-down play.

TrustScore

TrustScore is Birch's proprietary rating, from 0 to 100, built from 50+ signals that reflect what actually matters to parents — safety, materials, recalls, certifications and quality. Here's our research:

Component Age Safety — 91/100
The component inventory is flat acorn-shaped cards only — no dice, tokens or spinners — consistent across retailers, and the 3+ age label sits above the toddler small-parts concern threshold for this component type.

Component Quality — 84/100
The cards are thick, roughly 3/16-inch pressed board that has held up over months of repeated play with 4- and 5-year-olds, and a magnet-closure box that resists crushing, corroborating the brand's sturdiness claim, though no formal durability test is cited.

Play Value Honesty — 92/100
Reviewers confirm the game plays as described at the marketed 3+ age, with a 3-year-old successfully matching pairs and a family reporting weekly play for three months, corroborating the brand's adjustable-difficulty and memory-building claims.

Toy Safety Compliance — 84/100
Its products are fully CPSIA compliant and certified to US and UKCA standards, and are tested for phthalates, lead and soluble metals, but ASTM F963 is never named and no test method or lab result is given for this game specifically.

Age Grading & Choking Safety — 91/100
The age grading of 3+ is consistent across retailer listings and matches a card-only component set with no small parts. A brand-suggested face-up mode for younger children does not change the labeled age or components.

Recall History — 92/100
We queried the CPSC recall registry directly and found two Wee Gallery recalls on file, both voluntary with no injuries reported: a 2021 wooden tray puzzle choking recall and a 2024 phthalates recall on a tummy-time product.
