Non-Toxic Nursery Furniture

Furniture is the base of the nursery, and the rest of the room builds on it. Every crib needs a firm, snug-fitting crib mattress, and our organic crib bedding has fitted sheets to go with it. If you’d rather not buy a changing table, a changer dresser or a pad from our changing station collection works on top of most dressers.

Keep clothes, diapers and toys in order with nursery storage and organization, and see our baby monitors and cameras for checking in from another room. You can browse everything for the room in Nursery. Our nursery checklist lists what to buy before your due date, and our bassinet research and crib mattress research explain how we review sleep products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What nursery furniture do I need before my baby arrives?

The only piece you need is a safe place for your baby to sleep, such as a bassinet, bedside sleeper or crib with a firm mattress. Most families also add a dresser or changer dresser for clothes and diaper changes, and a glider for night feeds. You can add storage and a toddler bed later.

What does GREENGUARD Gold certification mean?

GREENGUARD Gold is a third-party certification for products with low chemical emissions, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like formaldehyde. Furniture can release these chemicals into the air, especially when it’s new. Choosing certified pieces helps keep the air in your baby’s room cleaner.

Should I start with a bassinet or a crib?

Either is safe if it meets current safety standards. Many parents start with a bassinet or bedside sleeper because the AAP recommends room-sharing without bed-sharing, ideally for at least the first 6 months. Move your baby to a crib when they reach the bassinet’s weight limit or start rolling or pushing up, often around 4 to 6 months.

What is a convertible crib?

A convertible crib changes as your child grows, usually into a toddler bed and later a daybed or full-size bed. This means you can use one piece of furniture for years. Check which conversion kits are included, because some are sold separately.

How do I set up a safe crib?

Use a firm, flat mattress that fits snugly, with no more than a two-finger gap between the mattress and the crib frame. Use a fitted sheet only. Keep bumpers, pillows, blankets and soft toys out of the crib for the first 12 months. Always place your baby on their back to sleep.

Do I need to anchor nursery furniture to the wall?

Yes. Dressers, bookcases and shelves can tip over if a child climbs or pulls on them, so anchor every tall or heavy piece to the wall with anti-tip hardware. Put heavier items in the bottom drawers, and don’t put a TV on top of a dresser.

Is a changer dresser safe?

Yes, as long as the changing pad or tray is fully on top of the dresser and secured. Always keep one hand on your baby, and never leave them alone on a changing surface, even for a second. A safety strap doesn’t replace your supervision.

Do you offer free shipping and returns on nursery furniture?

Yes. Every order ships free with hassle-free returns, and first-time customers get 15% off at checkout. See our shipping and returns pages for details. Large furniture may have different delivery and return terms.
