How TrustScore Is Calculated
Every TrustScore is a number from 0 to 100, worked out the same way for every product of the same type. It measures how well the evidence supports a product's safety, materials and quality — not how popular it is.

What makes a crib mattress trustworthy isn't what makes a baby bottle trustworthy. Each product type is scored on its own set of criteria, covering safety, materials, certifications, recall history and how openly the brand shares information.

Evidence, not opinions
We gather evidence about each product: the brand's own specifications and certification claims, independent testing and coverage, certification registries, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall database.

Independent verification counts most
A claim someone outside the brand has checked — a certification that verifies, a lab report, hands-on testing — scores highest. Specific, checkable brand claims come next. Vague marketing language and missing information score lower, and evidence against a product lowers its score the most.
