Key Features

Certifications

  • GOTS Certified Organic

Certified by Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS certification verifies that a textile product's organic fibre content and its full processing supply chain meet defined organic, environmental and social criteria.

    What it checks

    • Confirms fibres used are certified organic (e.g. cotton, wool, hemp, silk, linen)
    • Checks chemical inputs, wastewater treatment and environmental management during processing
    • Verifies human rights and social due-diligence criteria across the supply chain
    • Requires traceability, annual on-site audits and transaction-based checks at every processing stage

What it does not cover This certification addresses organic fibre content, processing chemicals and supply-chain conditions; it is not a general product safety, flammability, or choking-hazard test.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

  • GREENGUARD Gold

    Certified by UL Solutions

GREENGUARD Gold certifies that a product has been tested by UL Solutions and meets strict limits on chemical (VOC) emissions into indoor air.

    What it checks

    • Lab testing of chemical emissions against limits for more than 360 VOCs plus total chemical emissions
    • Meets stricter emission limits than standard GREENGUARD, intended for sensitive settings like nurseries and schools
    • Compliance with California Section 01350 chamber testing method for VOC emissions
    • Manufacturing process review and routine re-testing to confirm ongoing compliance

What it does not cover It measures air emissions from the product, not general product safety, physical/mechanical hazards, choking risk, or compliance with toy or baby-product safety regulations.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

  • MADE SAFE

    Certified by Nontoxic Certified

MADE SAFE certifies that a product's ingredients have been screened against a list of chemicals known or suspected to harm human health or the environment.

    What it checks

    • Screens ingredients against the MADE Banned List of flagged chemicals
    • Reviews products using an ecosystem approach considering human health and environmental impact
    • Applies across product categories such as textiles, mattresses, and personal care items
    • Certification is issued and maintained by Nontoxic Certified, the program's issuing body

What it does not cover The page does not indicate that this certification tests overall product safety, performance, durability, or compliance with government safety regulations.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

93 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Changing-Product Compliance 85

This is a contoured changing pad, the product class the federal changing-products rule squarely covers, and the design carries the features that rule targets: raised contoured edges in two-sided and four-sided versions, a safety buckle to secure baby, and snap screws that fix the pad to a dresser or changing table so it cannot shift. Neither 16 CFR 1235 nor ASTM F2388-21 is named for this pad, and no Children's Product Certificate, accredited-lab report or JPMA listing is published.

Core & Fill Chemistry 96

The fill is untreated, unbleached, undyed certified organic cotton batting and the support core is closed-cell food-grade polyethylene — no polyurethane foam, no latex, and no brominated or chlorinated flame retardants — and that composition is confirmed independently for this pad through an EWG Verified screen whose criteria prohibit chemical flame retardants, fiberglass, PVC and PFAS. GREENGUARD Gold for low chemical emissions is carried for the finished pad and its logo appears on the product's own label, though no listing number for the pad is published.

Textile Certification 93

The fabric the baby lies on and the fiber batting inside are GOTS and/or OCS certified organic cotton, and the optional flannel cover is GOTS certified organic cotton sewn in a GOTS-certified factory. A reviewer who bought the pad found the GOTS mark on the product's own label alongside the GREENGUARD Gold and MADE SAFE marks; no GOTS licence number is printed for the pad itself.

Waterproof Layer Chemistry 96

The wipeable surface is a clear food-grade polyethylene coating derived from non-GMO sugarcane over organic cotton — no vinyl or PVC, no phthalate plasticizers, no perfluorinated compounds — and that polymer is named for this pad in an independent EWG Verified screen whose criteria bar PVC and PFAS outright. The UL validation for non-detectable PFAS covers the crib and kids mattresses rather than this changing pad.

Fragrance, Dye & Lotion Free 93

The independently verified component list for this pad contains no fragrance, dye or lotion of any kind — only organic cotton fiber and fabric, food-grade polyethylene coating and support, interlinings, thread, binding, strap and buckle — and the organic cotton is unbleached and undyed with no decorative print on the contact surface. That confirmation of composition comes from a single independent screen, and no free-from statement naming fragrance, dye and lotion separately is published for the pad.

Recall History 97

We queried the complete CPSC recall corpus — 9,944 records spanning June 1973 to August 2026 — and Naturepedic appears nowhere in it, in any role or at any date. The same corpus carries 332 crib, 182 stroller and 86 pacifier recalls, so nursery products of this kind are covered and the clean result reflects the brand's absence rather than a gap in the search.

Certification Credibility 96

This changing pad carries the EWG Verified mark in its own right, listed under changing table pads with its full component list and a February 2024 data date, and MADE SAFE appears in a major retailer's own product-compliance data for the pad. GOTS, MADE SAFE, GREENGUARD Gold and UL Formaldehyde Free are all named for this finished pad rather than for a component, though no licence or listing number is printed for any of them.

Ingredient Disclosure 97

This pad is EWG Verified, a mark that requires full material disclosure, and the verified component list is published for the pad itself: organic cotton fiber, organic cotton fabric, food-grade polyethylene waterproof coating, food-grade polyethylene support, interlinings, thread, binding, strap and buckle. The material breakdown goes further still, naming the polyethylene foam core, the polypropylene interlinings, straps and buckles, and the polyester seam bindings and sewing thread.

Skin-Contact Safety Testing 84

This pad is made without latex, wool or other known allergens, and the wipeable polyethylene surface acts as a hypoallergenic dust-mite barrier. No dermatological institute, skin-irritation test method or rating is published for the finished pad, so the skin-contact claim rests on the material choices rather than on a test.

Transparency & Support 92

Two independent retailers carry the full material breakdown in their own product data — organic cotton fabric and fill, food-grade polyethylene core, food-grade polyethylene waterproofing derived from non-GMO sugarcane, made in the USA with domestic and global materials — and an independent reviewer who bought and used the pad reports the same materials and country of origin. The pad carries a 1-year limited warranty.

Customer Stories

Sentiment Summary

Reviewers frequently describe the changing pad as soft, comfortable, and well-cushioned for their baby.
Many customers say the pad is easy to wipe clean and appreciate that it holds up well to frequent messes.
Several reviewers value that the pad feels non-toxic and free of chemical smell compared to other changing pads they have used.
Some customers mention the pad fits their changing table or dresser well and works well with standard changing pad covers.
Several reviewers feel the changing pad is worth the higher price given its quality and safer materials, though a few note it costs more than other options.

It was a gift and they loved it.

We’ve had this now for six months and it’s great

Very good material and well built

I just received the changing pad about 2 weeks ago. I like the design concept of this changing pad, but feel there were some errors when it was manufactured. Mine has a large air pocket under the waterproof outer layer which still has not gone away after weeks of having it out and trying to squeeze out the air. This causes a lot of crinkling sounds and I don't think it will contain any mess because the outer layer poofs up higher than the edges of the pad. I don't recall seeing any other customer complaints about this so I'm wondering if I received a defective product.
Disappointed
I loved this pad and was confident it was safe for use with my kids, until I noticed that the underside of the pad had become moldy. The top of the pad is waterproof, but be aware that the bottom is not, and will absorb moisture.
