Frequently Asked Questions

When can my baby start solid foods?

Most babies are ready around 6 months, when they can sit up with support, hold their head steady and show interest in food. Check with your pediatrician before starting, especially if your baby was born early.

What is biodynamic baby food?

Biodynamic farming goes a step beyond organic, treating the farm as a single ecosystem with strict rules on soil, composting and biodiversity. Holle's biodynamic range is certified to the Demeter standard, which is stricter than organic certification alone.

Are baby food pouches good for babies?

Pouches are convenient for travel, daycare and busy days, and they're a genuinely useful option. Spoon or squeeze the food into a bowl where you can, so your baby sees and tastes the food rather than sucking straight from the pouch, and balance pouches with finger foods and family meals.

What is toddler formula, and does my child need it?

Toddler formula is a milk drink for children over 12 months. It isn't essential: most toddlers can drink whole cow's milk and get what they need from a varied diet. Some families choose it for fussy eaters, dairy alternatives or extra nutrients. Talk to your pediatrician before making it part of your child's routine.

What's the difference between infant formula and toddler formula?

Infant formula is for babies under 12 months and is the sole or main source of nutrition, so it's tightly regulated in the US. Toddler formula is for children over 12 months and sits alongside solid food. Never give toddler formula to a baby under 12 months. Birch does not sell infant formula.

What's the difference between goat, oat and A2 cow formula?

Goat milk formula is chosen by some families for its protein structure. A2 cow milk contains only the A2 beta-casein protein, which some people find easier to digest. Oat formula is dairy free and plant based. None is better across the board, so ask your pediatrician about your child's needs, especially where allergies are involved.

How should I introduce new foods?

Offer one new food at a time and wait a few days before adding another, so you can spot any reaction. Common allergens like peanut and egg are usually introduced early these days, but follow your pediatrician's advice, especially if there's a family history of allergies.

How do I store opened pouches and cereal?

Refrigerate an opened pouch and use it within the time stated on the packaging, usually 24 hours, and throw away anything your baby has eaten directly from. Keep dry cereal sealed in a cool, dry cupboard and use within the period stated after opening.

Do you offer free shipping and returns on baby food?

Yes. Every order ships free with hassle-free returns, and first-time customers get 10% off at checkout, up to a maximum discount of $75. See our shipping and returns pages for details. Food and formula may be excluded from returns for safety reasons, so check before ordering.
