Organic Tie-Back Strap Dress

Provenance is stated too: the cotton is grown and the garment manufactured in India, designed in Florida.

The dress has no snaps, buttons or applied decorative pieces to detach — it fastens with adjustable fabric ties at the back and is tagless against the skin, and sizing runs from newborn through 5-6T. Seam construction is not described, no small-parts or use-and-abuse test result is published, and there is no guidance on tie length for a mouthing-age child.

The dress is dyed with azo-free, water-based dyes, and the fabric is cotton rather than a synthetic base layer, so disperse dyes are not in play. The brand's GOTS licence restricts dye chemistry across processing, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is named for its products, and the azo-free dyeing is repeated in independent coverage.

We queried the full CPSC recall corpus — 9,944 records spanning June 1973 to August 2026 — for "Makemake Organics" as manufacturer, importer, retailer or product name and found no record in any role at any date. The same corpus returns hundreds of children's-product recalls as a control, so the clean result reflects the brand's absence rather than a failed search.

Makemake Organics holds a GOTS licence numbered IDFL 010673 issued by IDFL Laboratory and Institute, an independent organic certifying agency, and this dress is 97% GOTS certified organic cotton sewn at a GOTS certified factory in India, marked IDFL 26390. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and Fair Trade are also named for the brand's products, without licence numbers of their own.

The dress is declared free of PFAS, formaldehyde, flame retardants, phthalates and azo dyes, and nothing about it is sold as easy-care, wrinkle-resistant, non-iron or stain-repellent — the care guidance asks for a cool iron, which is the opposite posture. The GOTS processing standard the brand is licensed under also prohibits formaldehyde and bleach, and the PFAS-free and flame-retardant-free position is repeated in independent coverage.

Care instructions are published in detail: machine wash on gentle, do not bleach, cool iron, tumble dry low and remove promptly, with mild plant-based detergent and wool dryer balls suggested instead of softeners. What the guidance stops short of is any instruction to wash the dress before first wear.
