CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

88 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Safe for Baby to Ingest 91

The balm requires no wash-off before nursing because it will end up in the baby's mouth, and the full six-ingredient list backs that claim.

Active Purity & Testing 84

The active ingredients here are named organic plant butters and oils (olive, cocoa, shea, mango) with no published grade, pesticide-residue data, heavy-metal panel, or rancidity testing specific to this product.

Formulation Safety 91

The published ingredient list for the nipple butter is olive oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter and calendula extract with no lanolin, petroleum, parabens, fragrance or preservatives named or present.

Allergen Disclosure 91

The brand explicitly names wool/lanolin allergy as the concern this lanolin-free formula avoids, and beeswax is listed plainly on the label for anyone with a beeswax sensitivity to identify.

Lactation Support 84

Usage guidance is limited to applying after each feed or as needed, with no published direction to seek a lactation consult for persistent pain and no clinician involvement documented for this specific product.

Recall History 97

We queried the complete CPSC recall database (9,944 records, 1973–2026) and found no record for Earth Mama in any role; the corpus's coverage of comparable categories like diapers and pacifiers confirms the query itself works.

Certification Credibility 84

Earth Mama states its organic products are certified to NOP or NSF/ANSI 305 standards through Oregon Tilth, but this general brand-wide statement does not name the nipple butter itself as carrying that certification.

Certification Rigor 85

The brand names EWG VERIFIED as a company-wide trust anchor and has dozens of products catalogued in the EWG Skin Deep directory, but no source ties an EWG VERIFIED or MADE SAFE certification specifically to this nipple butter.

Transparency & Support 84

The brand commits to listing every ingredient on its labels and discloses BPA-free PET packaging, but no warranty terms or repair/support route relevant to this product are published, and manufacturing country/supplier are not stated.

Ingredient Transparency 91

The nipple butter's full ingredient list is published and contains only six named components, well under the fifteen-ingredient threshold.

Customer Stories

Sentiment Summary

Many reviewers say the balm eased pain from cracked or sore nipples during breastfeeding and helped them keep nursing.
Several customers note it goes on smoothly without feeling greasy or sticky and does not stain clothing.
Customers who pump mention it reduces friction and discomfort on the flanges and makes pumping more comfortable.
Many reviewers value not having to wipe the balm off before nursing.
A small number of reviewers describe the texture as grainy or scratchy, with one unsure if they received a bad batch.
One reviewer mentions beeswax in the formula makes it unsuitable for a vegan diet, noting interest in the brand's vegan alternative.

I purchased a jar a few weeks after the birth of my first child because nursing had become painful. I brought a jar along to the hospital when I had my second, and gave some to my sister-in-law who's currently expecting. And I'll keep on recommending this because it works.

I love this nipple butter! It has amazing, clean ingredients, is very high quality, and importantly, is coconut oil-free! I'm allergic to coconut oil, and I don't want to use lanolin, and this is the only nipple butter that fits both those criteria. It really helps my sensitive skin not be sore, and I'm very happy that I don't have to wipe it off before feeding the baby. It is really hard to find quality, clean skincare products without coconut oil. I love this product.

Amazing product! This is an incredible product that smells clean, doesn’t stain your clothes & doesn’t feel greasy! It has helped so much ease the pain of breast feeding!

Despite being fragrance-free, this nipple butter actually has a really nice scent to it. But I’m confused about the consistency. Mine is super grainy and the grains are a little uncomfortable when applying and don’t seem to dissolve well. I don’t know if I got a bad batch?
