CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

87 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Crash Protection Compliance 93

A regulator compliance test report documents FMVSS 213 testing of an Orbit Baby infant car seat model, and Consumer Reports independently rated the Orbit Baby G5 infant seat's crash protection as 'Better.' No published 213a/213b timeline accompanies the current FMVSS 213/302 compliance claim.

Safety Standard Compliance 93

An NHTSA compliance test report documents FMVSS 213 testing against a named Orbit Baby infant seat model using the regulator's own test procedure. Eligible Orbit Baby products also carry the Baby Safety Alliance (formerly JPMA) Verified Seal, with annual independent lab retesting against ASTM standards and chemical limits.

Fit Range & Expiration 84

The brand publishes a 7-year expiration period for its car seats, but we found no published rear-facing weight/height limits or shell-manufacture date for this base and its paired seat in the sources reviewed.

Flame-Retardant & PFAS Chemistry 78

Independent flame-retardant testing lists this brand among the seats tested without stating a specific pass or fail result for it, and no current-generation FR-free or PFAS-free declaration is published for this base. A third-party BFR-free claim exists only for the discontinued G3 line, not this product.

Installation Usability 69

Independent testing found the StrongArm tensioning knob needs roughly ten turns per install, contradictory installation instructions, and carrier-only belt installation too difficult to recommend; Consumer Reports lists several install-usability cons for this base and seat pairing.

Recall History 92

We queried the CPSC recall database directly against a validated corpus and found no record naming Orbit Baby. Separately, the brand's own 2013 G2 base recall was voluntary, reported no injuries, and offered a free remedy kit; a Transport Canada action on the G3 seat required only a manual addendum and new labels.

Textile & Foam Chemistry 84

The textiles are claimed as OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified for harmful substances, but no test method, result, or certificate number is published. Independent flame-retardant testing included Orbit Baby among tested brands without stating a specific pass or fail result for this brand.

Certification Credibility 93

NHTSA's own compliance test report names the specific Orbit Baby infant seat model and the TP-213-09 test procedure used to verify FMVSS 213 performance. The brand's OEKO-TEX claim, by contrast, is noted elsewhere to carry no certificate number.

Transparency & Support 91

The base carries the same 2-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects as other G5-series products, with a clear claims process (serial number and proof of purchase) and coverage explicitly scoped to G5-era products purchased 2019 or later.

Customer Stories

Sentiment Summary

Customers frequently say installation is quick and simple, often describing the base as the easiest part of switching car seats between vehicles.
Many reviewers, including grandparents and caregivers, mention that having a base in a second car makes transferring the child between vehicles much easier.
Some customers mention the rotating feature of the seat on the base as especially helpful for loading and unloading their child without straining their back.

I honestly don't know how to express the joy of being able to acquire such a high-quality product. It makes removing the baby from the stroller or car seat 100% easier. The design is extremely exceptional; everywhere we go, people stare as if they've never seen such quality and comfort for a baby. Thank you, Orbit baby for providing our baby with comfort and technology.
Anderson B.
I love how easy this is to install. It’s very sturdy I feel at ease knowing my baby is safe with this car seat and base.
Dara D.
We needed a second base after baby #2. Easy to install via latch system.
