Key Features

Certifications

    • OEKO-TEX Certified

    Certified by OEKO-TEX (Standard 100)

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certifies that every component of a textile item has been lab-tested and found free of harmful substances above set limits.

    What it checks

    • Testing of yarn, fabric, buttons, and other accessories against a list of over 1,000 regulated substances
    • Stricter chemical limits for products with more intensive skin contact, including a dedicated infant/toddler product class
    • Compliance with chemical regulations such as REACH, CPSIA, and the ECHA-SVHC candidate list
    • Annual review of substance limit values and one-year validity per certificate

What it does not cover It tests for chemical residues only and does not certify general product safety features like choking hazards, flammability, or mechanical construction.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

Weighted across 9 criteria

CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

88 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Crash Protection Compliance 93

NHTSA compliance testing was documented against the FMVSS 213 procedure for an Orbit Baby infant seat model, and Consumer Reports independently rated the G5 infant seat's crash protection 'Better.' No published timeline exists yet for the 2026 FMVSS 213a/213b updates.

Safety Standard Compliance 93

NHTSA compliance testing documentation names the specific infant seat model and the FMVSS 213 test procedure number used to confirm restraint performance. The brand additionally names Baby Safety Alliance/JPMA independent lab sample-testing against ASTM standards and chemical limits for eligible products.

Fit Range & Expiration 91

The seat is rated 4-30 lbs and 17-32 inches, figures corroborated across independent reviewers, with a stated 7-year expiration from the manufacture date. The exact expiry date appears only on a label rather than printed in the manual itself.

Flame-Retardant & PFAS Chemistry 84

The cover fabric is claimed to be made without added flame-retardant chemicals and OEKO-TEX certified, but no independent test result, lab name or PFAS-specific statement is published for this seat. The brand is listed among those included in a flame-retardant testing corpus with no stated result for it.

Installation Usability 69

Independent reviewers document contradictory installation instructions, a StrongArm tensioner needing roughly ten knob turns per install, difficulty making the belt lay flat, and a recommendation against carrier-only belt installation because the shell is too large for most belt paths. A lockoff and level indicator are provided.

Recall History 92

We queried the CPSC recall database directly (10,053 records, 1973-2026) with a control showing the product class is covered, and found no recall filed against this brand at all. A 2013 voluntary base recall and a Transport Canada labeling correction exist in the record but cover the discontinued G2/G3 lines, not this G5+ seat.

Textile & Foam Chemistry 85

The fabric is said to be OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified and the cover is made without added flame-retardant chemicals, but no certificate number, lab name, or foam-specific chemistry certification is published for this seat. The brand appears in a flame-retardant testing corpus without a stated pass/fail result for it.

Certification Credibility 92

The Baby Safety Alliance/JPMA verification for eligible products describes independent lab sample-testing against ASTM standards and chemical limits, and separately tests to Prop 65 each production run. No certificate number is published for the OEKO-TEX claim, but the certification is asserted for the finished product.

Transparency & Support 91

Orbit Baby publishes a concrete two-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects, with stated exclusions (non-approved accessories, products bought before 2019 or outside the G5 series) and a defined claims process, plus a manuals library for assembly and use. Country of manufacture and supplier are not published.

We got the orbit car seat and stroller base with skateboard. Its SO easy to use and the swivel action in the car has made removing our newborn so easy. THe base feels VERY secure and I have no worries that she is safe. We've had other car seats/bases in past that did not feel this locked in and safe. 10/10

I love my orbit infant car seat not only is it beautiful but it's very convenient from putting baby in the car to taking them out and putting them in the stroller I love the way I can rotate the seat at restaurants and not have to remove the entire car seat and put it on a chair or booth. 100% recommend orbit baby to all parents they have amazing products and customer service.

Such a gorgeous and convenient infant car seat. Minimal use at this time but I’m excited to see my baby grow in it.
