CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

79 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Emissions & Off-Gassing 77

We found no VOC or formaldehyde emissions certification, and no off-gassing or airing guidance, published anywhere for this plastic sound machine and night light.

Safe Volume Output 69

We found no maximum dB figure or safe-placement guidance published by Hatch for this product. Independent researchers measured Hatch-family machines around 45-60 dB at typical settings, sitting near or above the 50 dB limit pediatric sleep guidance recommends for a baby's crib.

Electrical & Battery Safety 78

No UL or ETL listing, FCC identifier, or battery-compartment compliance statement is published anywhere for this unit. The only electrical safety record we found belongs to a recalled adapter from an earlier product line that this machine was not part of, so nothing published speaks to how this unit itself was certified.

Connected-App Privacy 84

The Hatch app privacy policy discloses collecting a child's name, birthday and gender, states the app is not directed to children, and describes Wi-Fi and account-based security layers for the audio monitor feature, but no independent privacy review or retention/sharing specifics are published.

Recall History 92

We queried the CPSC recall registry directly and found one Hatch recall: roughly 919,000 power adapters sold with the Rest 1st Generation sound machine, over a housing fault that could leave the prongs exposed. That is a separate product line from this machine, and later Rest units were excluded from it. Hatch gave registered owners a free replacement adapter and dropped the supplier behind the fault, and no other Hatch recall appears in the registry.

Certification Credibility 77

We found no named safety or quality certification asserted for this sound machine anywhere in Hatch's own materials or third-party coverage - no JPMA, ASTM, UL, or similar mark tied to this product.

Sleep-Support Claim Honesty 82

Hatch markets 'science-backed sounds' and sleep-consultant chat for routine-building without naming the research behind the phrase, while its own terms state the products are not medical devices and are not intended as medical instruction.

Transparency & Support 91

Hatch publishes a concrete one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of registration, along with clear exclusions for wear, misuse and accident, and a stated claims process.

Cord & Placement Safety 76

We found no cord-length specification or explicit crib-distance placement guidance published by Hatch for this plugged-in unit, and the corded design itself is not addressed against strangulation risk anywhere in the materials we reviewed.

Material Disclosure Depth 77

Hatch does not publish a component-level materials list for this sound machine's housing, electronics or finishes; the only material-adjacent language we found concerns handling and care instructions, not what the product is made of.

Customer Stories

This is my third Hatch, which already says a lot. We have one at home, one at my parents’ place for sleepovers, and I just bought this one for our newest baby’s room.We started using it when our first was a newborn, and it quickly became part of our daily rhythm. The sound quality is excellent (not tinny or harsh like some others), and the range of white noise and ambient sounds actually makes a difference in helping our baby settle and stay asleep. It creates a really consistent sleep environment, which I’ve found is key.The light feature is just as useful. It’s soft, customizable, and perfect for middle of the night feeds or diaper changes without fully waking the baby (or yourself). I especially love being able to adjust both brightness and color.I'm absolutely convinced that the consistent use of the light/sound combos helped sleep train our first baby and will no doubt help in the process of sleep training our next. Would highly recommend.

I was given the Hatch Rest 2nd Gen for my first baby, and thought it might be a little bit overkill. However, we have only used it more and more as our child has grown. Now for number two, I decided to upgrade to the Hatch Baby. They've made some great upgrades over the years:-night light function: you just press a button on the side and a gentle light comes on so you can nurse/change a diaper/whatever you need to do without turning on the overhead light or needing a separate lamp. You also don't need to have your phone to control this. When you're up in the middle of the night and exhausted, its super simple and super handy to have this function. (see video for functionality)-the button on top is now the control instead of a touch ring to start/stop your programmed lights. I actually like the button a bit more because you can control the on/off and the volume with it very easily (see video). As your child grows they will be able to easily operate it (more on that below). There is another button on the bottom that controls brightness.-There is now an AI sleep guide and pointers about sleep. I'm a bit of a stickler about the kid getting plenty of sleep (because that means I get plenty of sleep), and I think this product really helps you from birth to set some good groundwork for healthy sleep habits. The Hatch Baby app is easy to use, easy to make different programs for your baby (for example white light/noise for a certain number of minutes after you put them to sleep). We used temporary white noise when our first was younger, but now we use the Hatch as a night light (growing minds/imaginations seem to have more fear of the dark), and we are also using the ability to program in a 'wake-up' light to teach our child when it is time to get up (otherwise they know they can keep sleeping). Also, the versatility with colors of light (there are over 20 options) and different types of sound (from white/pink noise to rain, fan, etc) has made it so there is something to fit all of our needs (for example we started with a gentle white light, but as our child decided purple was the best color ever and was having some fear of the dark, we changed the light to purple and she instantly (no joke) went back to sleeping through the night). You can control multiple hatch products via the app very easily. To me, the look doesn't matter as much as the functionality, but I do like how sleek the product is-looks nice in any space without needing to be the focal point.Overall, I'd say I was a bit of a skeptic, but now couldn't imagine bedtime/middle-of-the-night time, etc without this product--to the point that I bought it again!

This is an amazing product! Im still getting everything set up but im so impressed. The lights and sounds are completely customizable and can be controlled on the app! The app is also super helpful. Theres an AI chatbot to answer questions on sleep and development as well as stories and different comforting sounds. The night light button is very easy to press, perfect for my baby to use as they grow up. Shipping was super fast too! I received it in 2 days. I found another app called hatch grow that goes over development but i havent used that one yet. Overall i think this is a great investment for the price. Ill be recommending this to all my mom friends. Oh and it comes with 6 months of premium access completely free!!!!
