CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

84 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Odor Containment 69

The pail is described with a sliding, childproof lid intended for an airtight closure, but independent hands-on testing found it absorbed odors and retained an unpleasant scent even when empty, and its narrower opening made loading larger diapers harder.

Material & Chemistry 91

The pail body is stainless steel with a powder coating, paired with ABS plastic components and a silicone seal ring. Steel does not absorb odor the way plastic does, and no antimicrobial or fragrance additive is named anywhere for this pail.

Refill Bag Composition 77

This pail is designed to work with any standard kitchen trash bag rather than a proprietary refill, so there is no resin, recycled-content percentage, or compostability standard published for a bag used with this product.

Fragrance, Dye & Lotion Free 84

The pail itself uses ordinary trash bags rather than a scented proprietary bag system, and an independent buying guide notes it has no scented bags built in. No explicit fragrance-free, dye-free or lotion-free statement is published for the finished pail, and no test method backs the claim.

Recall History 92

We queried the complete CPSC recall corpus (9,966 records, 1973-2026) and found exactly one match: a 2019 recall of Ubbi bath toys for a choking hazard, not this diaper pail. The response was proactive, with direct outreach to known purchasers, and only one or two incident reports with no injuries.

Certification Credibility 94

Two independent retailers, Pottery Barn Kids and Walmart, each carry GREENGUARD Gold Certified in their own product compliance data for this steel diaper pail, indicating VOC emissions of the finished product have been certified rather than just claimed by the brand.

Ingredient Disclosure 91

The pail's construction is disclosed at component level: stainless steel body with powder coating, ABS white plastic parts, and a silicone seal ring. A retailer listing and an independent reviewer both repeat this same materials breakdown.

Mechanism & Child Safety 91

The lid has a named child safety lock that keeps little hands from finding their way inside, and reviewers repeatedly confirm the lock function holds up in daily toddler-proofing use. No stability or tip-hazard information is published.

Skin-Contact Safety Testing 77

The pail itself is not a skin-contact product, and no dermatological or hypoallergenic testing claim is published for it; an EWG-verified claim we found applies only to bundled wipes in a gift set, not the pail.

Transparency & Support 84

We found a customer-service contact for defective products, but the country of manufacture and warranty terms for this pail are not published; a retailer Q&A confirms one scenario is excluded from warranty without stating what the warranty actually covers.

End-of-Life Honesty 79

The body materials are named as stainless steel with powder coating, ABS plastic, and a silicone seal, but nothing states which parts are recyclable or how to separate them at end of life.

Customer Stories

Sentiment Summary

Many customers say the pail effectively contains diaper odor and appreciate that it works with any standard trash bag rather than costly proprietary refills.
Reviewers frequently describe the pail as sleek, durable, and lightweight, and many like the child lock for keeping curious toddlers out.
A recurring complaint is that the pail develops a persistent bad smell over time, with some customers reporting black mold or mildew growth despite regular cleaning.
Several reviewers report parts breaking or failing with normal use, including the lid, hinge, or handle cracking or coming off after a few months.
Some customers note that opening the pail to change the bag releases a strong burst of odor even though it stays contained while closed.
A couple of reviewers who are tall mention wishing the pail were taller so they didn't have to bend down as far.
Many customers feel the pail is a good value because it eliminates the need for expensive proprietary refill bags, though a few feel replacement parts breaking so easily hurts the value for the price.

I’m genuinely impressed with the Ubbi diaper pail! The quality feels super sturdy and sleek, and it does an amazing job at keeping odors contained. I also love that it works with regular trash bags, which makes it way more convenient and cost-effective. Such a practical and stylish addition for any nursery!

We love the Ubbi Diaper Pail!! The design is incredible with truly has low odor, it has a lock so the kids can’t get into it, it’s easy to use; put bags in and take bags out. Overall SUCH a fan of this product!

I absolutely love the Ubbi stainless steel diaper pail! It’s lightweight, which makes it easy to move around when needed but still feels incredibly durable and well made. The stainless steel design not only looks sleek but actually helps lock in odors way better than plastic pails in my opinion. Love that it doesn’t require special bags and that there is no lingering odors. Over very practical and does exactly what you need it to do without hassle.

My Ubbi diaper pail was great at first, but I started noticing that it started to smell horribly. I saw online that you should only clean it with a dry cloth, but that did nothing. I then started to notice that it started growing black mold and was rusting. I spoke with Fred R. From customer service and he responded to my messages so quickly and was extremely helpful. He kept me updated about my order, and answered all of my questions with ease. Its not often that you are able to have positive communication with customer service, but Fred was so great and helped me with my concerns.

I bought this pail a little over a year ago, and unfortunately, it’s been a huge disappointment. The lid broke off completely, the ring is cracked, and it barely traps any odor — I actually have to move it out of the room so my son doesn’t suffocate from the smell. To make things worse, their customer support is practically non-existent. They simply don’t seem to care. This review might not even stay up, but it’s the truth.
