Key Features

Certifications

  • GREENGUARD Gold

    Certified by UL Solutions

GREENGUARD Gold certifies that a product has been tested by UL Solutions and meets strict limits on chemical (VOC) emissions into indoor air.

    What it checks

    • Lab testing of chemical emissions against limits for more than 360 VOCs plus total chemical emissions
    • Meets stricter emission limits than standard GREENGUARD, intended for sensitive settings like nurseries and schools
    • Compliance with California Section 01350 chamber testing method for VOC emissions
    • Manufacturing process review and routine re-testing to confirm ongoing compliance

What it does not cover It measures air emissions from the product, not general product safety, physical/mechanical hazards, choking risk, or compliance with toy or baby-product safety regulations.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

  • FSC Certified

    Certified by Forest Stewardship Council

FSC certification traces wood and paper-based materials in a product back through the supply chain to forests managed under FSC's standards.

    What it checks

    • Chain of custody tracking of wood/fibre from certified forests through manufacturing
    • Forest management practices checked against FSC standards (100%, Recycled, or Mix sourcing labels)
    • Auditing of certificate holders and monitoring of forest management organizations
    • Traceability tools such as blockchain-based tracking of certified material

What it does not cover This label addresses forest sourcing and traceability of wood/paper materials; it does not test or certify the safety, chemical content, or performance of a finished product.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

90 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Frame Material & Adhesive 88

The crib frame is named as 100% solid New Zealand pine, a claim a retailer listing and an independent chemical-safety review both repeat. That same independent review flags uncertainty about whether engineered wood appears in the side panels, and the brand separately discloses that some panels across its furniture line use CARB II compliant MDF with wood veneer, without confirming this crib is entirely free of it.

Finish Type 84

The finish is described only as a 'non-toxic multi-step staining and painting process' with 'low VOCs' — no water-based versus solvent-based chemistry is named, and no test method or result supports the low-VOC claim beyond the GREENGUARD emissions certification covering the whole product.

Sleep-Product Compliance 91

The crib is built to ASTM F1169 and 16 CFR 1219, standards named directly for full-size cribs, and support materials confirm the move away from drop-side designs. No CPC or lab report number is published for this specific SKU.

Recall History 95

We queried the complete CPSC recall database (10,002 records, 1973-2026) for this brand and found no recall filed against it in any role, with cribs, strollers and other nursery categories all represented in the same corpus as a control.

Structural Standard Compliance 92

The crib is built to ASTM F1169, with slats spaced a maximum of 2⅜ inches apart and each withstanding at least 135 pounds against an 80-pound minimum, metal-insert hardware retention, and no drop-side design; a retailer separately confirms it meets or exceeds ASTM and CPSC standards.

Certification Credibility 93

A retailer's own compliance data lists a resolvable FSC licence number (N003885) and itemizes GREENGUARD Gold certification for this crib, going beyond what the brand's own page shows for this specific product.

Emissions & Off-Gassing 93

A retailer's own compliance listing for this crib itemizes GREENGUARD Gold certification alongside FSC certifications, going beyond a bare repetition of the brand's claim on this specific product's finished form.

Wood Sourcing (FSC) 95

A retailer's compliance listing gives a resolvable FSC licence number (N003885) for this crib's wood alongside the FSC-certified-forest claim, though the number is quoted rather than linked to a reachable registry entry in what we reviewed.

Transparency & Support 91

The warranty is concrete: one year, repair or replace, with stated exclusions, and a replacement-parts request process exists requiring model/serial number and proof of purchase. Country of manufacture (Vietnam) is disclosed.

Material Disclosure Depth 85

The frame is disclosed as 100% solid New Zealand pine and the paint is stated to be formaldehyde- and lead-safe, but a third party notes uncertainty over whether this crib's side panels use engineered wood, and no full component-by-component breakdown (adhesives, exact panel materials) is published.

Customer Stories

Sentiment Summary

Customers frequently praise the crib's sturdiness, quality, and ease of assembly.
Many reviewers describe the crib as beautiful and appreciate its classic design.
Some customers report the wood finish scratches easily and the paint can chip, exposing raw wood underneath.
A few reviewers mention the crib arrived with scratches and that assembly hardware (cross dowels) can be difficult to work with or strip easily.
Some customers feel the crib does not match the color or wood-grain appearance shown online, while others feel it lives up to a premium, heirloom-quality expectation.

Very nice crib sturdy and relatively easy to assemble, I would say it takes 2 successfully finish the job.

We love the liberty crib so much that we bought a 2nd when we got pregnant again (our daughter was still using hers). It was super easy to put together. It’s sturdy and I feel calm knowing it’s keeping my babies secure. We survived Norovirus with relative ease being able to easily clean all parts of the crib. And of course, it’s a great looking crib that will keep looking great as the grow into the toddler bed.

This crib was visually everything we dreamed of. My husband and I struggled for years with infertility, when we finally had our son this was our big purchase. It was supposed to be “heirloom quality” and it just isn’t. It scratches at the slightest touch, the paint comes right off and leaves behind cheap raw pine underneath. It’s nothing that I will be able to pass down to my children’s children like I had hoped. At this rate we won’t even be able to use it for other babies because I’m worried about the safety of the paint coming off. Very upset.

I’m writing regarding my recently purchased Liberty 6-Drawer Dresser in Forest Green. This was purchased for our nursery and delivered via white-glove service. We chose Namesake because of the brand’s reputation, the premium price point, and the expectation that this would be a safe, high-quality piece for our newborn’s room. After allowing the dresser to air out for several days, I began loading it with freshly washed baby clothes and a new batch of Coterie diapers. Unfortunately, I discovered that the inside of every drawer was coated with a green dust/residue that appears to be from the finish or paint. This residue transferred onto the diapers and clothing, ruining the diapers and requiring the clothing to be rewashed and sanitized. I have attached photos showing the green residue collected while cleaning the inside of the drawers. This is extremely disappointing and concerning. A nursery dresser should be ready and safe to store newborn clothing, diapers, and other baby items. I reviewed the included manual and did not see any instruction warning that the interior drawer surfaces require a deep clean before use, nor any indication that paint/finish dust may be present inside the drawers. The manual only provides general care guidance about cleaning with a soft lint-free cloth and non-toxic cleaner. I do not want to return the dresser if this can be properly resolved, but I do need Namesake to address the following: Please confirm what this green dust/residue is. Is it paint, finish residue, pigment dust, MDF/wood dust, or something else from manufacturing? Please confirm in writing whether the dresser is safe to use for newborn clothing and diapers after cleaning. Please explain whether this is expected or a quality-control issue. The residue was inside every drawer, which makes me concerned this was not properly cleaned or inspected before shipment. Please provide compensation for the ruined Coterie diapers and the additional cleaning/sanitizing required for the baby clothing. Please let me know what remedy Namesake can offer, whether that is reimbursement, a partial refund, replacement drawer boxes, professional cleaning, or another appropriate resolution. We trusted Namesake with a major nursery purchase, and finding green dust throughout the drawers after loading them with newborn items has made us question whether the piece is safe for its intended use. I would appreciate a prompt response and a meaningful resolution.
