CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

87 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Wound-Adjacent Material Safety 85

The balm's full ingredient list is published and includes organic lavender and peppermint oils, which are fragrance-contributing essential oils rather than a fragrance-free formula, despite marketing framing this as gentle wound-adjacent care.

Adult-Product Boundary 90

The balm is marketed only within a postpartum maternal recovery bundle alongside sitz bath, nipple butter and teas, with no infant sleep, lounging or positioning use suggested anywhere in that listing. No explicit 'adult use only' warning is stated, so the separation rests on the absence of dual-use messaging rather than a stated claim.

Recovery Claim Honesty 91

The directions frame the balm as soothing comfort support rather than a medical treatment, and the standard FDA wellness disclaimer distances the claims from disease treatment, keeping the language inside comfort-and-support framing.

Intimate-Hygiene Manufacture 76

The container carries a best-by date that the brand explicitly frames as a loose freshness guide rather than a strict expiry, and no preservative system or packaging-seal detail is published for this balm.

Recall History 95

We queried the CPSC recall registry's full corpus of nearly 10,000 records and found no recall filed against this brand in any role, with a control confirming the database covers comparable product classes. A third-party compiled check separately found a clean FDA/CAERS record and no lawsuits.

Certification Credibility 92

The balm is named as certified by Oregon Tilth (organic) and Leaping Bunny, both named third-party certifiers the brand also documents as involving independent annual audits, asserted directly for this product with no registry number to verify.

Material Chemistry 91

The balm's own ingredient list shows no petroleum, no artificial fragrance, and no artificial preservatives, and its formula is entirely oils, butters, beeswax and named herbal extracts rather than any stain-resistant or antimicrobial treatment chemistry.

Postpartum Fit & Sizing 77

This balm is a topical, not a garment, so no measurement-based size chart, waistband height or compression level is published for it, and nothing adjacent addresses sizing or fit for this product.

Transparency & Support 91

The full ingredient list is published, naming every organic botanical and oil in the balm, and the brand names its Clackamas, Oregon manufacturing facility. No formal warranty applies to a single-use topical, so this rests on the materials disclosure alone.

Reuse & Care Clarity 77

Directions state applying the balm 2-3 times a day, but nothing states how many jars or ounces a typical recovery period actually requires, and there is no reusable-vs-single-use framing since this is a topical consumed with use.

Composition Disclosure 91

The complete ingredient composition is published for this single-component topical (olive fruit oil, shea butter, beeswax, jojoba, lavender and peppermint oils, witch hazel, St. John's Wort, calendula, yarrow), leaving nothing about what the product is made of unstated.

Customer Stories

Sentiment Summary

Many reviewers describe strong, fast cooling and soothing relief for postpartum perineal soreness, tearing, and stitches.
Several reviewers report the balm helped relieve hemorrhoid pain and swelling during pregnancy and postpartum recovery.
Some customers say they prefer this balm over hospital-provided sprays or over-the-counter options for comfort after birth.
A couple of reviewers mention the balm did not fully resolve their symptoms, such as ongoing hemorrhoids or vaginitis, though they still found some relief.
A few reviewers note a noticeable tingling sensation on application, which most describe as pleasant rather than irritating.
Several customers mention the balm lasts a long time and say they would repurchase it.

I recently gave birth and had a first degree tear. This, plus the spray, have been absolutely amazing in helping my recovery!!

It works pretty well especially for menopausal women. It does have a faint smell and will leave some green places on my clothing . I would love it if it were softer in texture, no smell, and possible clearish but I will still use it as it does stop chafing.

I ordered this at the start of my 3rd trimester, wanted to have an all natural birth with little to no tearing (hopefully, I know lol) I started applying this in the weeks before my due date to keep that area hydrated and I also used it for doing perineal massages. My first baby slid out within 4 hours and I had just a slight tear. Started applying this a few weeks after birth (once I was comfortable enough to start feeling around down there) and the cooling hydration is next level. Feels amazing, smells amazing, instantly so relaxed! I want them to make this as a body balm!!! Obsessed!!

Whoever decided that peppermint oil was a good idea in this is a sadist!!! This sh** burns so badly. I’m two weeks post partum and have tried it several different times hoping for different results but it’s just excruciating each time AND DOESNT WASH OFF. Never again!!!

I was SO disappointed when I read the ingredients and saw that the new formulation contains bees wax, while the old formula used candelilla wax. One of the reasons I loved your brand was because it was vegan, but I have been noticing that the new products in the new packaging are no longer considered vegan, as they all seem to have beeswax. I am so sad that I will have to find alternatives and I'm praying the c-mama balm doesn't change also! Please bring back your old formulas! -------------------------------------------- Earth Mama HQ response: We know, we hear you and we love our vegan customers. We loved our candelilla balm formula too. Whenever we have a chance to make a product more organic we make that choice. We've chosen certified organic beeswax to replace candelilla wax, which is not available as a certified organic product. This makes the balms even more organic. We still do have many vegan products available! <3
