Key Features

Certifications

    • GREENGUARD Gold

    Certified by UL Solutions

GREENGUARD Gold certifies that a product has been tested by UL Solutions and meets strict limits on chemical (VOC) emissions into indoor air.

    What it checks

    • Lab testing of chemical emissions against limits for more than 360 VOCs plus total chemical emissions
    • Meets stricter emission limits than standard GREENGUARD, intended for sensitive settings like nurseries and schools
    • Compliance with California Section 01350 chamber testing method for VOC emissions
    • Manufacturing process review and routine re-testing to confirm ongoing compliance

What it does not cover It measures air emissions from the product, not general product safety, physical/mechanical hazards, choking risk, or compliance with toy or baby-product safety regulations.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

    Read the official standard

    • FSC Certified

    Certified by Forest Stewardship Council

FSC certification traces wood and paper-based materials in a product back through the supply chain to forests managed under FSC's standards.

    What it checks

    • Chain of custody tracking of wood/fibre from certified forests through manufacturing
    • Forest management practices checked against FSC standards (100%, Recycled, or Mix sourcing labels)
    • Auditing of certificate holders and monitoring of forest management organizations
    • Traceability tools such as blockchain-based tracking of certified material

What it does not cover This label addresses forest sourcing and traceability of wood/paper materials; it does not test or certify the safety, chemical content, or performance of a finished product.

This certification is held by the brand or manufacturer, not by Birch. We show it because the brand states it for this product. Summarised from the certifying body's own page.

CURATEIQ

TrustScore breakdown

89 /100

We take what's most important for a product to determine the TrustScore. Here's our research:

Emissions & Off-Gassing 92

The Swell Changing Table's own page names GREENGUARD Gold certification tested against over 10,000 chemical emissions and VOCs, and formaldehyde levels across its furniture are undetectable, with any MDF components CARB Phase 2 compliant.

Tip-Over Stability Compliance 92

Babyletto states its dressers, chests and changers are tested to ASTM F2057-23's stability parameters — simulated clothing load, carpet, child-weight and dynamic-force tests — under the mandatory 2023 CPSC rule, without publishing an actual lab report for this model.

Anti-Tip Hardware & Instructions 87

Babyletto states an anti-tip kit is included with its dressers/changers and recommends installation, and third parties confirm this practice for sibling Babyletto dressers (Hudson, Yuzu, Modo) — but no source names the Swell Changing Table's own carton contents or restraint hardware specifically.

Recall History 92

We queried the recall registry and found one open Babyletto recall, for the Kiwi Electronic Recliner glider's USB port — a different product line entirely from this changing table. The brand runs an ongoing third-party lab testing program with quarterly retesting of full-size cribs.

Certification Credibility 92

The Swell Changing Table is named GREENGUARD Gold certified and FSC certified, tested for over 10,000 chemical emissions and VOCs, with no certificate number published for either mark.

Changing Surface Safety 84

The Swell's own page states a 30 lb weight limit and includes a waterproof changing pad, but publishes no barrier height on any side and no restraint system for the changing surface.

Drawer Mechanism & Entrapment 78

We found no published detail on drawer stops, soft-close hardware or finger-pinch mitigation for this specific changing table. Sibling dresser models in the lineup describe stop mechanisms and metal glides, but nothing on file addresses this unit's own drawer construction or small parts.

Transparency & Support 93

An independent reviewer reports that emailing Babyletto's support with specific finish-compound questions got real documentation back rather than boilerplate, and a separate retailer FAQ obtained the country-of-manufacture detail Babyletto's own dresser/changer pages omit. The Swell's own page lists a 1-year repair/replace warranty and separately sold touch-up/hardware repair parts.

Material Disclosure Depth 84

The Swell's shelves and finish are named (non-toxic multi-step painting and staining, FSC-certified wood) but a reviewer reports the actual shelves are thin MDF board rather than solid pine, and no adhesive or fire-barrier detail is published anywhere.

Customer Stories

Sentiment Summary

Several reviewers describe the changing table as sturdy and well made.
Some reviewers were disappointed to find the piece is not solid wood, noting the shelves are a thin MDF board and feeling it did not match how it was originally described.
A reviewer felt the included changing pad was a cheaper, thin foam pad rather than a nicer contoured one.
Some customers say assembly was quick and easy.

This changing table is perfect for storing diapers and small newborn clothes. It will also work well for when baby gets bigger. The green color we ordered is gorgeous. Very study product and happy with our purchase.

Easy to put together! So cute!
HOLLY
I've had my eye on the Swell line since I found out I was pregnant, and I really wanted to love this! I'll start by saying that it is cute, but didn't meet expectations. First and biggest issue - this is NOT solid wood. I see they've removed the bit about "sustainably sourced solid New Zealand pine wood" from the description - but this is how it was advertised when I bought it. The shelves are a very, very thin MDF board - including the top shelf your baby will lay on! I feel this isn't very safe, and I will not be using this changing table for long. I don't love that Babyletto doesn't specify if the 30lb weight limit is per shelf, or for the entire unit? Aesthetically - the color is off from the advertised photos. They show a very warm, honey-toned stain. In person, there is a very gray undertone that makes this piece look washed out on my honey oak flooring. Also, instead of the front and back being the same construction-wise, they made it so the screw holes are on the outside of the boards on one side - meaning if one side gets dented/scratched (as soft pine does), you cannot just flip the piece around unless you want to see the screw holes. Also, the changing pad that comes with this is not the nicer contoured pad - it's a cheap, thin piece of foam wrapped in poly. Overall this piece just isn't any higher quality than Million Dollar Baby's other, cheaper brands. It's cute, it works, but for $300 I expected better.
