Disposable Placemats

The eating surface is a soft absorbent non-woven layer over a waterproof backing, with no melamine and no bamboo composite anywhere in the mat, and it is stated PVC-free and phthalate-free. The specific polymer in each layer is not named — the material is given only as "plastic" — and no food-contact test method or result is published for the finished mat.

The black-and-white illustrations on the eating surface are printed in water-based inks certified RoHS-compliant, meaning free from hazardous materials and heavy metals, and the mat carries no glaze, painted decal or fired coating. Lead and heavy-metal results measured on the printed face of the mat itself are not published.

The mats are made with food-grade materials and are free from BPA, PVC, phthalates, fragrance and latex. The 19-bisphenol screen that covers the BPA replacements BPS, BPF, BPB and BPAF belongs to the diaper line rather than to these placemats, and for the mats themselves neither the polymer in the waterproof backing nor any migration result is published.

Care is unambiguous and honest: one meal, one mat — no rinsing, scrubbing or laundry, fold it up and throw it away — and there is no microwave-safe or dishwasher-safe convenience claim attached to this product at all. The guidance visibly stops short of saying anything about hot plates or hot food placed directly on the mat.

These mats are single-use by design — unfold, peel and stick, then fold up and throw away, with no rinsing, soaking, scrubbing or saving for later — so there is no reuse or sterilization cycle to degrade. What is missing is the heat side entirely: no temperature limit, no test method and no result for how the absorbent top layer or the waterproof backing behave when hot food or a hot dish sits on them.

We queried the full CPSC recall corpus on saferproducts.gov — 9,944 records spanning June 1973 to August 2026 — and Parasol Co appears nowhere in it, in any role, at any date. Controls run in the same corpus returned hits for comparable juvenile-product classes (diapers, cribs, strollers, toys, pacifiers), so the clean result reflects the brand's absence rather than a query that missed.

The printing inks used on these products are water-based and certified RoHS-compliant, free from hazardous materials and heavy metals — a named standard, but one that covers the ink rather than the finished mat. The OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 Product Class I certification and the 1,000-plus substance testing programme are held for the diaper line, and no certificate or test report is published for the placemat as sold.

The construction is described layer by layer — absorbent non-woven top, waterproof backing, gentle adhesive strips — along with size (18.7" x 12.6") and count (80 mats per order). The disclosure stops short of the polymer used in the waterproof backing, the country of manufacture and the supplier.
